Stickability

Stickability

Several times over the last month, I have uttered the term “Stickability” when discussing websites and online visibility, and have then had to explain what is meant by the term. So today I thought I would ask ChatGPT how it would describe Stickability to someone who had never heard of the term, and was reasonably unfamiliar with digital marketing.

This is how ChatGPT described Stickability;

Let’s imagine a website like a physical store. Some stores you walk into, glance around for 10 seconds, and leave.

Other stores make you want to wander, explore different aisles, pick things up, maybe even come back later.

Stickability is basically how good a website is at making people stay longer, explore more and return again.

In simple terms: Stickability = how “sticky” a website is for visitors

A sticky website:

  • Holds your attention
  • Feels easy and enjoyable to use
  • Gives you reasons to keep clicking, reading, or watching
  • Instead of people leaving right away, they “stick around.”

A few everyday examples

Think about:

  • You open a recipe site and end up browsing 5 more recipes
  • You watch one video and the site suggests another you want to see
  • You read an article and see a related one that interests you

That’s stickability in action.

The website is designed to gently pull you deeper.

Why Stickability it matters (without marketing jargon)

Websites want people to:
✔ Stay longer
✔ Find value
✔ Come back in the future

When people stick around, it usually means:

  • The content is helpful or entertaining
  • The site is easy to navigate
  • The experience feels good

Search engines (like Google) also tend to favor sites people spend time on — but that’s more behind the scenes.

What increases stickability?

Some common things that help stickability:

  • Clear layout (not cluttered or confusing)
  • Interesting content (articles, videos, tools, images)
  • Related suggestions (“You might also like…”)
  • Fast loading
  • Easy to read

A one-sentence version you can remember: Stickability is how well a website keeps visitors engaged instead of leaving quickly.

Do you think ChatGPT has explained it well?

Is there anything you would add? Or perhaps you feel the term didn’t need to be explained or wanted a more technical response.

What next?

If you would like to find out more about stickability, you can of course have your own conversation with ChatGPT or why not book a call with Sayers Solutions.

Sayers Solutions are by no means web experts or technical website builders – however we work with partners to deliver projects for our clients. What we do, is work with businesses to use the web and other online and offline tools to communicate their message, get found by people searching for what they do and otherwise meet their business objectives.

We also persistently encourage those businesses to review and establish their business plan and marketing understanding (preferably before taking any tactical actions to make sure they are appropriate and not wasteful).

We can work with you on a 1:1 basis, or through our Peer Support offerings The Club weekly sessions and/or our Drop in sessions.

It’s very likely that before we commit to working together, we both need to check that we are the correct fit. If that’s the case, please feel free to book a no obligation 15 minute discovery call.

However if we’ve chatted before and you’re ready to make a start, please book a paid one or two hour session for a time that works best for you.
